In 2006, a medical summit was
called by Sickle Cell Awareness group of Ontario; then known as Seed of life Philanthropic
Organization Inc. During this business meeting, Dr. Isaac Odame made a strong case of why a national representation
of Sickle Cell Disease is of high priority in Canada. The message was loudly
and clearly received. The journey to start the national body began with Dr. Odane championing the teleconference calls and encouraging the many groups
across the country to come together.
It is with much enthusiasm that I
submit to you that Canadian organizations came together again August 2011 and
agreed to make sure Sickle Cell Disease has a national voice in Canada
Many young people are suffering and
dying. Our patients battle not only with medical issues but also with psychosocial
issues.
Men and women of various medical
and non-medical background are needed to help with its committees.
