The Toronto District School Board passed a motion at its
Board meeting on Wednesday, June 19th to rename The Girls Leadership Academy to
The Jean Augustine Girls 'Leadership Academy.
Family, friends and well wishers
attended the meeting to celebrate with the Hon. Dr. Jean Augustine, who was an elementary
school principal in Toronto and the first black woman to be elected to the Parliament
of Canada. She is currently the Fairness Commissioner of Ontario, appointed in
2007.
